Editor's Review:

Jillian Michaels has quickly become a household name. Her fitness and nutrition advice aims to help you get the body you dream of from the comfort of your own home. What’s more, it’s flexible, allowing you to eat and exercise to suit your build, lifestyle and goals.

The system is relatively simple, with no major surprises at its core. In essence, it provides the motivational and emotional support you need to keep you eating healthily and exercising.

Perhaps the biggest difference between JillianMichaels.com and other fitness websites is that it aims to change the way you think about yourself, your body and life. It aims to keep your motivation high, and Jillian even sends members regular emails to keep them on track.

The premise seems a healthy one: people stay happy and healthy when they feel part of a supportive community. Jillian’s been there herself, and seems to understand that being healthy isn’t really about being a size zero, it’s about feeling confident and healthy in your mind as well as your physique.

Consequently, JillianMichaels.com focuses on creating a supportive network and helping you to make weight loss and fitness as enjoyable as possible. Advice on slight behavior modifications (such as not snacking when you feel down, or talking to friends when you’re finding something tough) are small but effective ways to begin.

The second factor in this system is to make sure you’re eating a healthy diet. This doesn’t mean tasteless food or starving yourself, it means eating the right kind of food. Eating a varied diet is part of this process and the website provides more than a hundred recipes to help you out. You can use the meal planner to make sure your food is varied, enjoyable and accessible. They also offer shopping lists so you can easily print one out and take it to the stores without having to work out all the quantities for yourself.

The third factor in Julian’s fitness regime is concerned with exercise. You can choose specialized plans for your frame and strengths (such as flexibility or heart/cardio fitness rather than muscle tone). Plans are based on your current weight, goal weight, height, age and gender. Samples show you how difficult each exercise is, what equipment (if any) you need, which muscles are being exercised and the type of exercise. You can view videos of these exercises to see exactly how they’re done.

It isn’t a site to bully you into submission, rather it understands the psychology behind weight loss.

Each regime is broken down into sections, and even as a free member you can see the first stage in each of these programs. The site’s free app allows you to take the information and videos on the move, should you be away on a trip or visiting a gym. We also liked the inclusion of a play list, which is designed to help motivate you whilst you work out.

The site’s message boards are a good place to meet other members and share your thoughts. You can get support from people who have already tried exercises and menus, exchanging tips and making friends. Again, this support can be pivotal in staying motivated and keeping the weight off.

Jillian Michaels also has an online store for any purchases you might wish to make. It offers anything from workout clothes to water bottles, energy boosters to books and DVDs. Prices are very reasonable.

Talking of costs, how much will this website set you back? The answer is: surprisingly little. There’s a free week-long trial to find out whether you’ll enjoy using the site, and it then costs just $4 per week. This is cheaper than many other fitness websites, which is great considering the superior level of support and advice. There aren’t a variety of membership options to choose from; rather you gain full access to all the features and tools available.

If you’re still unconvinced, then why not take a look around the site? It’s slick, easy to navigate, and includes some really useful articles. We felt that the overall tone was professional but fun, and most of all it felt supportive. It isn’t a site to bully you into submission, rather it understands the psychology behind weight loss. With a free 7 day trial, there’s no reason to hold back.

Whether you’re looking to shed a couple of pounds, want to improve your overall health, or want to completely reinvent yourself, we feel that JillianMichaels.com has plenty to offer a range of needs. It’s less suited for people who wish to bulk up, but you can still find information and training for improving muscle mass and tone. Check it out.
