MarkLauren.com offers body weight training videos and apps to help you work towards your ideal body. The site is comprehensive, offering books, videos, apps, equipment and additional information, but falls short of greatness. Whilst the videos appear pretty good, the information is a little lacking and there are really no customization options.
It’s important to note that this is primarily, although perhaps not exclusively, a website focused on body building. However, its app, in particular, will be useful to anyone who is hoping to improve their fitness and general wellbeing. This easy to use app can be loaded up in the gym. You can then choose from a range of workouts or specific exercises, set how many repetitions you wish, and get going.
The app isn’t free, but it is cheap. It has receive excellent reviews on the iPhone apps store, which is encouraging. There are more than 200 videos to choose from, showing you how to properly perform an exercise, plus custom timers for supersets, strappers, ladders, interval sets and more. It can be used at all fitness levels and even in the home if you have some basic equipment.
Mark seems keen on pushing the idea that your body is your gym, and you really don’t need a lot of expensive equipment to build your muscle. If you take a look at the equipment on sale, his philosophy is clearly reflected in the (lack of) variety. Still, it’s clearly effective and there are a few useful videos showing you how to use it effectively.
DVDs can be purchased in English or German, which can then be watched at home. There are also a few food articles to read, with recipes to try out. This is particularly important because anyone building their muscle mass will probably need to adjust their diet to make sure they are nourished, and that their muscles are able to increase.
Mark Lauren Bodyweight Training contains a forum for members to discuss key issues and exercises. This was being used when we checked, which is great to see. Discussions tended to be practical, discussing equipment and goals, so there’s certainly a live community of members to chat with if you need to.
Whilst this site offers a fair number of well received DVDs, it feels a little lacking in activity. There aren’t a lot of online videos to watch and there are no calendars to help you plan and maintain your workouts. In terms of diet and other fitness concepts, it also feels a little lacklustre. The app, however, does seem worth exploring. It’s had some great feedback and looks easy to use, with settings for amateurs and professionals alike.
